Prospect 7: Amanda Schoppel Corporeal

Amanda Schoppel: Corporeal
Amanda Schoppel: Corporeal

Amanda Schoppel. Corporeal (detail of 1 of 3 structures) 1999. Looped rubber bands and welded metal. 2.1 m x 68.58 cm x 45.7 cm.
17 Apr 1999 – 30 May 1999

Amanda Schoppel’s "Prospect" exhibition illustrated her inventive use of an unorthodox sculptural material, at an unprecedented scale. As she says:

Using looped rubber bands to build large forms is inherently labour intensive. I have my reasons for working this way. For me the rubber band provides abundant possibilities, involving tension or potential tension, internal systems and the inevitable degradation or life span.
The work has a fleshy quality that is irresistably tactile, both disgusting and appealing.
